PRELIMINARY
CONFERENCE PROGRAMME
THURSDAY,
25TH MARCH, 2010
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP: Applying the Work of Isabel Menzies
Lyth to forensic settings: Current Developments
The work of the late Isabel Menzies Lyth (1917-2008), the
distinguished psychoanalyst and social scientist, has
continued to have a profound influence on the practice of care
by informing our understanding of the tremendous emotional
impact on staff working in mental health and other
institutional settings.
Her insights are very much alive in current research, and have
great relevance for practice in forensic settings. This pre
conference workshop aims to draw on her ideas, and the
experience of participating members, to provide illustrations
of the defences and difficulties that arise in the complex
tasks of treatment within forensic organisations.
