Bullet ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
For twenty years the International Association for Forensic Psychotherapy (IAFP) has brought together multi-disciplinary experts and trainees in psychotherapy working with people with mental health problems who have offended or are at risk of doing so. Clinical and academic knowledge has been developed in the field of extreme violence and perversion, not only of perpetrators, but also victims (including the perpetrator him/herself). With a primarily psychodynamic and systemic approach, the Association has always applied this learning to related issues in broader society.

In its anniversary year the IAFP Annual Conference focuses on understanding murder and its meaning. We will explore both murderous fantasies that are not enacted, and those that are, as well as the many aspects of killing that preoccupy both our offender patients and wider society. How do we minimise risk, how do we help offenders, how do we help victims?

The format is a central conference with keynote speakers, as well as a series of parallel workshops on specific topics. Each day finishes with a Large Group, which allows the conference to work on issues that have arisen throughout the day. It provides a forum for understanding social processes, institutional dynamics, relationships between subgroups and social roles.

Networking is always important at conferences and formal and informal opportunities are built in. There is a drinks reception (wine and canapes) on the first night (Thursday) and then people make their own arrangements for dinner. The following day the optional Anniversary Dinner is held in the magnificent Signet Library, which we encourage everyone to sign up for.

A bookstore will be available for purchasing books by the contributors and other relevant texts.
